You might even ask local businesses to promote and perhaps donate items for a giveaway. Whenever we held them the cookies were a big hit. A local bakery might be willing to supply for such a good cause. Seems like when you are obligated to give someone something, it's no longer a gift. I'll stick to the surprising since there's usually joy in the eyes of the recipient that can't be replaced. :-) Does so much for me, too.
